In a move that has surprised, but also delighted me, Johnny Depp (Tonto in forthcoming THE LONE RANGER) has been adopted into the Comanche Nation family in recognition of his role in Gore Verbinski's movie.
For those not in the know Tonto is of the Comanche Nation (in this latest telling) and it is a massive vote of confidence for Disney, and Depp in particular, that LaDonna Harris has welcomed him to the family stating:
'I reached out, and Johnny was very receptive to the idea. He seemed proud to receive the invitation, and we were honored that he so enthusiastically agreed.'
We've even got a picture taken shortly after the 16th May ceremony.

What do you make of this? Is this a glorification of the depth to which Depp has gone for his role, or a cynical attempt by Native American's for some Depp-caliber publicity?
THE LONE RANGER will be released 31st May 2013 and also stars Armie Hammer, Tom Wilkinson and THN Icon Barry Pepper.
