yes and no, Quaker bought the original rights to the movie, with the idea of releasing Wonka bars back in the 70s, they never produced a movie before this one, they spent 3 Million on this movie which only made 4, they also didn't make the Bars they planned to. On VHS though the original became a cult classic. with the new version, they finally tied in the Candy bars, with Depps version. years from now, the Original Gene Wilder's Wonka will live on.
