Johnny Depp and his longtime director, Tim Burton, are taking a wee break as Depp gets in front of the camera for Kevin Smith for the first time. The news of his casting was let slip by Justin Long, who also stars in the film, during an interview with Long Island Newsday. “Tusk,” written and directed by Smith, centers around an older man (Michael Parks) who has a deep obsession with walruses. Long plays a journalist who approaches him for a story, and Genesis Rodriguez and Haley Joel Osment are signed on to play Long’s friends. It is believed that Depp will play Lapointe, the investigator who looks into the strange events that unfold. Johnny Depp in a movie about bizarre occurrences? Color us shocked.
Depp’s dance card continues to be jam packed. He’s already wrapped production on “Into the Woods,” “London Fields,” and “Mortdecai.” He’s also starring in the Warner Bros. drama “Black Mass,” the true story of Whitey Bulger (Depp) written and directed by Scott Cooper. He’s also reprising his role as The Mad Hatter in Disney’s “Through the Looking Glass,” the sequel to “Alice in Wonderland.” His most recent feature, “Transcendence,” will be in theatres April 17.
