On April 18, 2014 the movie “Transcendence” was released into theaters. The film stars actors Johnny Depp, Rebecca Hall, Kate Mara and Morgan Freeman, to name a few.

The movie surrounds the lives of Will and Evelyn Caster (Depp and Hall), two scientists whose attempt at artificial intelligence turns to a situation of life or death for Will after he’s shot with a radiation-laced bullet by a member of a radical anti-technology organization.

When Will is on the cusp of death, a last ditch effort by his wife to save and upload his consciousness into a quantum computer becomes a success. Thrilled to find that a part of her husband still exists, Evelyn’s triumph turns dangerous when Revolutionary Independence From Technology (R.I.F.T.) leader Bree seeks to destroy it.

As Evelyn runs to a safe location where countless break-through discoveries are made by Will’s consciousness, R.I.F.T. waits patiently, preparing to take them down. After several years, Evelyn’s faith in Will begins to fade when he still seems no more “physically” human than P.I.N.N. (the originally-tested machine).

One by one, things slowly begin to spiral out of control for Will and Evelyn, and the ending will leave the audience shocked. I recommend “Transcendence” to both sci-fi lovers and die-hard romantics. The film’s romance between Will and Evelyn is a truly original love affair. All in all, although the movie received poor ratings, the combination of its acting quality and intricate storyline make for a fulfilling end.
