The New 'Lone Ranger' – Tonto Receives a Johnny Depp Makeover ...

Throughout television history there have been a plethora of well-known shows that gain popularity and fans during their run; however, few actually keep their presence long past the final episodes. The shows that have become classics are remembered for generations to come (e.g. Friends, The Cosby Show, Three's Company). Lasting through the decades as one of America's most iconic figures, The Lone Ranger continues to strive today. Since the first years of The Lone Ranger Empire, starting in the late 1930′s, the two main characters, The Lone Ranger and Tonto, have experienced several modifications. In the summer of next year the two characters will undergo another transformation as director Gore Verbinski contributes his vision to the long line of directors who've tackled the material before him.

Lone Ranger Tonto Johnny Depp - P 2012Projected to release on May 31st, 2013 The Lone Ranger will star Helena Bonham Carter, William Fichtner, Armie Hammer (The Lone Ranger), and Johnny Depp (Tonto). Personally, I am highly anticipating Depp's work in the role of Tonto — a character that differs greatly from Depp's more popular characters (Edward Scissorhands, Jack Sparrow, The Mad Hatter).

The first official photo from the film shows the handsome Lone Ranger looking prominent in the forefront with Tonto glaring in the rear. Depp's performance will no doubt add a new perspective on the character's legacy; his beloved yet bizarre physicality combined with the more mundane characteristics of Tonto could result in a delicious combo. Additionally, Tonto's costume fits Depp's strange behavior to a "t". The drapery for Tonto was actually designed by Penny Rose, who was also responsible for Captain Jack Sparrow's attire in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. If Depp prevails in his unique and absurd behaviors, found in most of his odd roles, then Tonto could be his best character to date. Judging from the picture, Depp will manage to add his special touch to Tonto.

On May 31st, 2013 Walt Disney Pictures and Silver Bullet Productions (II) will bring the iconic American television show to the big screens.
