Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 45% (Critics) / 74% (Audience)
Directed By: Gore Verbinski
Written By: Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio
Starring: Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley, Geoffrey Rush, and Bill Nighy
Studio: Disney

Synopsis: Director Gore Verbinski and the crew set sail once again for this, the third chapter in the swashbuckling Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy. Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) is hopelessly trapped in Davy Jones' locker after a harrowing encounter with the dreaded Kracken, and now Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) must align themselves with the nefarious Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) if they hold out any hope of saving their old friend from a fate worse than death. The Good:
Johnny Depp, Bill Nighy and Geoffrey Rush could make the reading of a Chinese takeout menu entertaining; all three men brought their A games for this film. Depp slips into the Jack Sparrow persona so easily that I sometimes find myself forgetting that it is "Johnny Depp" in the role. But Nighy especially deserves kudos because of great his performance was despite the extensive make-up he had to work under.

The Bad:
This movie needed around 45 minutes shaved off of its running time;..someone should have informed Gore Verbinski that he wasn't making the sequel to CITIZEN KANE here, it was a friggin' third film in a goofy summer franchise for pity's sake! The Will Turner/Elizabeth Swann love story was tedious by the end of the first film and by this point in the franchise I was totally fed up with the two of them.

The Ugly:
They killed the Kraken that easily ?!?!? And it happened off-screen?!?!?! WTF!?!!?!

Final Verdict: A once strong franchise that was really showing some wear and tear by the time this installment hit theaters. The visual effects were strong and the trio of Depp, Nighy and Rush almost balanced out the weaknesses that were inherent in the overall movie. Almost. C
