Film Preview: New trailer for Verbinski's 'The Lone Ranger'

The action-packed trailers for next year's big summer blockbusters just keep on coming this week, with the latest film to offer up some new footage being The Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski's The Lone Ranger (2012) . A brief teaser trailer debuted all the way back in October, and now we have a full two-minute look at this big screen Hollywood re-imagining of the popular 1950s American television series. For the previously uninitiated, The Lone Ranger will see former Texas ranger John Reid (Armie Hammer) join forces with native American 'spirit warrior Tonto' (Verbinski regular Johnny Depp) as the two work together to fight corruption in the dangerous canyons and plains of the Wild West.

Aside from the usual helping of action - including a generous look at an ambitious set-piece on a train - the new trailer gives us some more insight into Reid and Tonto's first meeting, with the former presumably left for dead before Tonto's timely intervention. Even though the tone of the trailer is a little on the serious side, there are bound to be a few humorous scenes between the unlikely partners, and the brief snippets on display here show Hammer and Depp playing off one another effectively. The slo-mo cinematography glimpsed in both trailers is also something to look forward to.

The talent-laden supporting cast, which includes the acting proficiencies of Tom Wilkinson, Helena Bonham Carter, William Fichtner, Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale and Ruth Wilson is also encouraging, although not all of them make an appearance here.

The partnership of Verbinski - re-teaming once more with producer Jerry Bruckheimer - and Depp has brought about mixed results in the past (see The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, 2011's Rango ). But from what we've seen thus far, The Lone Ranger looks like it could be a fun time at the multiplex.

Gore Verbinski's The Lone Ranger will get its US release in July, before making its way to UK cinemas on 9 August, 2013.
