The CFDA is honoring Johnny Depp with the Fashion Icon Award and designer Rei Kawakubo with the International Award at this year's ceremony (which is being livestreamed) in June, but the two won't be in attendance.
WWD reports that Depp is busy filming his flick The Lone Ranger in the Navajo Nation and Kawakubo is putting the finishing touches on her June 29 Comme des Garçons menswear show. The honorees have asked filmmaker John Waters to present and accept the awards. He's been friends with Kawakubo for years and directed Depp in the 1990 flick Cry Baby.
The CFDA explains "that there might be a chance that both would not be able to attend but felt both were deserving no matter what".
