Hot on the heels of its announcement of Alan Horn replacing Rich Ross as head of Walt Disney Studios comes news regarding the release dates for a trio of tentpole flicks.
According to Deadline, Gore Verbinski's take on The Lone Ranger, starring Armie Hammer as the titular character and Johnny Depp as his sidekick Tonto, has been shifted from its original release date of May 31st, 2013 to Jul. 3rd. This is less about problems with the film and more about getting in on that sweet holiday weekend spot.
Meanwhile, Thor 2, which will supposedly feature a brand new villain, has been moved up a week to a Nov. 8th, 2013 release while Steven Spielberg's Robopocalypse, based on the book by Daniel H. Wilson and a screenplay by Drew Goddard, has been set up for an Apr. 25th, 2014 release. The film is being co-produced by Disney, Fox and Dreamworks.
